— I’m guessing you’re not talking about the score — the score is the instrumental music composed for a film. In this case the composer is Gabriel Yared who won an Oscar for The English Patient. I’m guessing you mean the pop songs that often show up on the soundtrack to a film — as for that I don’t really know, but it’s early in the process to have begun selecting songs. Usually the director would want to be able to watch at least a rough cut of the movie and get a sense what songs would fit and where.
