The first of the Rings (Pentacles( arcana tarot cards from Cassandra Jean’s complete Shadowhunter Tarot. The ten of rings shows the Branwell family ring, with a pattern of waves, and Charlotte and Henry. The nine of rings shows Jace and Will Herondale and the Herondale family ring with a pattern of birds. The eight of rings shows Matthew Fairchild, the Fairchild family ring with a pattern of wings, and the seven of rings shows Clary and Jonathan Morgenstern and the Morgenstern ring with its pattern of stars. (Their pose is a little like the pose on the cover of City of Heavenly Fire — cool.)

The last of the Swords arcana tarot cards from Cassandra Jean’s complete Shadowhunter Tarot Simon and Isabelle as the Ace of Blades, Jocelyn as the Queen, Valentine the Knight (why is he riding a horse shirtless? Is that safe?) Luke as the Page of blades, and the one who started it all, Jonathan Shadowhunter, as the King.

More tarot cards from Cassandra Jean’s complete Shadowhunter TarotWe’ve moved on from the Major Arcana to the minor Arcana — the suit of Blades, replacing the Swords in the original deck. This bit is sort of a rogue’s gallery since this section of the Swords suit is pretty depressing. The five of blades, representing the dangers of ambition: Axel Mortmain, the eight of swords, representing feeling trapped, usually features a blindfolded and bound woman: here’s it’s Jessamine Lovelace. The devastating Ten of Swords is Hodge Starkweather, pierced through with seraph blades. The seven of swords can indicate “someone behaving with less than ethical intentions”, so — Nate Gray.

More tarot cards from Cassandra Jean’s complete Shadowhunter TarotWe’ve moved on from the Major Arcana to the minor Arcana — we’re starting the suit of Blades, replacing the Swords in the original deck. The two of swords is Tessa, blindfolded, with Jem and Will on either side, representing difficult choices. The three of blades is Cordelia Carstairs, with Cortana (I think the writing is on the other side) representing mischievous chance, and four is James and Lucie Herondale, representing familial bonds and responsibilities.

[There were a few cases where we wound up redoing a card once it had been done. The original three of swords was Tiberius Blackthorn, so you can see the image here though it won’t be in the final deck.]

More tarot cards from Cassandra Jean’s complete Shadowhunter TarotWe’ve moved on from the Major Arcana to the minor Arcana — we’re finishing up the suit of Runes, which takes the place of the suit of Cups. Clary and Jace stand in for the ace of Runes (angelic power); Mark Blackthorn, chained to his chair, is Surestrike; Emma, Queen of Runes, is Strength; Julian, Knight of Runes, is True North, and Livvy and Ty, the twins, are Philia, or familial love.

It has been a really long while since I have updated mine and Cassandra Jean’s The Shadowhunter Tarot! The last post was the six and seven of runes. This is the eight and nine of runes. The first one is the binding rune, symbolized by Helen and Aline. The second is the rune for mania, symbolized by poor damaged Maureen. Hmm, what’s she done to Simon there…?

"Hi, Cassie! Maybe you receive these messages a lot, and I hope I’m not bothering you. It’s just that I really loved the Shadowhunter Tarot Cards, and it seems like you haven’t unveiled all of them. Are you done with it, or is there another reason for you not post them? Thank you so much! — kbrinu"

No, I am just lazy and got distracted. I have no excuses! The last card posted was the Five of Runes, so here is the Six and Seven of Runes to get back on track. Runes=cups in the traditional tarot. The first is the rune for parabatai:

And the second is the rune for agape. Agape is selfless, unconditional love that borders on the divine.

for in companions

Whose souls do bear an equal yoke of love,

There must be needs a like proportion

Of lineaments, of manners, and of spirit

— The Merchant of Venice

Another tarot card from Cassandra Jean’s complete Shadowhunter Tarot. We’ve moved on from the Major Arcana to the minor Arcana — the suit is the suit of Runes, which takes the place of the suit of Cups. Cups are associated with love and emotion. The five of Cups here is replaced by the rune of Mourning, embodied by Max Lightwood.

So Cassandra Jean has finished the complete Shadowhunter Tarot, so for the next … seventy-something days I’ll be posting a card a day (okay, maybe not every day — I tend to get distracted!)  in order, from the first card to the last.

(Okay, I lied! I keep getting distracted and missing cards. Here I’m finishing up the suit of Rings, which takes the place of the suit of Pentacles. Pentacles are associated with change and progress. Each card shows a family associated with a family ring — ten is the Branwells, and the suit cards, Queen, King, Prince and Page, are taken by the Lightwoods of the Infernal Devices era.

*The Cecily card is a spoiler. Therefore I’ve tagged the post.

(Okay, I lied! I keep getting distracted and missing cards. Also, in honor of Prop 8 going away, I’m skipping ahead today to the Eight of Cups. Aline and Helen and the rune “bind to.” We’ve moved on from the Major Arcana to the minor Arcana — the suit is the suit of Runes, which takes the place of the suit of Cups. Cups are associated with love and emotion. The eight of Cups can be associated with changing the present to achieve a better future.
